TSN analyst and all-around NHL insider Bob McKenzie is reporting that New Jersey Devils defenseman Damon Severson is on the verge of signing a new deal with the team.

No word yet on the term or financials of the deal, but it’s safe to say that Devils fans will be happy with Severson back in the team’s lineup. The 23-year-old native of Melville, Saskatchewan put up 31 points in 80 games last season for the Devils and looks poised to take a big step forward in 2017-18. Originally drafted in the 2nd round (60th overall) by the team in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Severson has played three sneaky good, under the radar seasons in New Jersey to begin his NHL career.

Details of his new contract to come.
