Rumor roundup: hunting season is open for star centermen!
KeyStone Press

The rumors surrounding Colorado Avalanche star forward Matt Duchene have been picking up steam once again after his strong start to the season. He has recorded two goals and three assists in three games and he looks more and more interesting for rival clubs looking to boost their offense.

According to National Hockey League analyst Pierre Mcguirethe Nashville Predators have tabled a significant offer for the star center, one that may involve a third team in some capacity.

“What’s interesting is I spoke to a management team three days ago, and they definitely want to be a player," said McGuire as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. "I know they’ve already made an offer on Duchene. I just don’t know what the offer is, but they said it was substantial so I believe them. But they’re trying to figure it out because it looks like it would have to involve another team."

The Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators were also said to be interested in landing the 26-year-old, but teams are aware of GM Joe Sakic's steep asking price. But a substantial offer might be what makes him budge and complete a huge trade.

Sharks looking at Tavares for era change?

The San Jose Sharks are still adjusting to the new season, still looking for their first win after losing the last two contests. GM Doug Wilson does not want to say too much about the solutions he might have in store to help his team, but in an interview with The Athletic, the general manager revealed a trade might be in the works.

Now according to Mercury News, the Sharks could be looking to pull off a blockbuster trade to acquire New York Islanders captain John Tavares. Wilson is looking for a star player for the looming post-Joe Thornton era of Sharks hockey, and Tavares could be the answer.

The Isles are in San Jose tonight and Wilson could get a better idea of what it takes to pull off such a major move!

Three teams after Athanasiou

The Detroit Red Wings are hoping to one thing very clear: they aren’t shopping restricted free agent forward Andreas Athanasiou, who’s now in Switzerland mulling over his options. But according to Ken Campbell of the Hockey News, three teams are showing a lot of interest to land the 23-year-old winger: “the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings displaying the most interest in him.”

Contract talks between the two sides remain at an impasse. The three teams are in need of scoring depth. We could find out in less than a week if Athanasiou remains in Europe to play for the Olympics, comes back to the Wings or is moved to a rival club.
