Rumor roundup: Major Rangers' players on the way out?
KeyStone Press

The New York Rangers have been at the center of trade rumors for as long as we can remember. It's especially prevalent this season but it seems never-ending, year after year.

The team has failed to make up for the loss of Derek Stepan down the middle but they've turned things around this month, going 8-2-0 in their last 10. At the beginning of the season, they found themselves at the bottom of the standings. They've since rebounded and are now one spot out of the playoff race a quarter way through the year.

Nonetheless, trade talks still surround the Rangers, and the big names being mentioned are Chris KreiderMats Zuccarello, and most interesting of all, Ryan McDonagh.

The latter name has mostly been brought up by infamous beat reporter Larry Brooks - who in some people's esteem can't be relied upon for such info.

Regardless, his name has come up multiple times, most recently in a Mitch Marner swap scenario. The Rangers are also linked to the Montreal Canadiens, with Max Pacioretty and Alex Galchenyuk frequently coming up in rumors.

The Rangers are tied for 5th in the NHL in scoring, but rank in the league's 10 worst teams in the goals allowed category.

Trading a player of McDonagh's ilk for offense may not be the wisest move, so it'll be interesting to see how Jeff Gorton proceeds as the trade deadline approaches.
