Rumor: Sens to blow it up and rebuild?
Keystone Press

It’s no secret that the Ottawa Senators have struggled this season. After getting to within a goal of reaching the Stanley Cup Final last season, the Sens decided to go ALL IN this season, but have stumbled out of the gate going 9-10-6 to start the campaign.

Even worse, the team’s blockbuster swap of Kyle Turris for Matt Duchene has blow up in their face so far. The 26-year-old Duchene has just one goal and two points in 11 games as a member of the Senators. Meanwhile Turris has three goals and 12 points in 13 games for his new club, the Nashville Predators

With eight losses in their last nine games, the Sens are in a free-fall and are in a seriously tough spot to qualify for the playoffs come this April. Because of this, trade speculation and rumors have started circling the team and some of its biggest underachievers. In particular it’s believed that teams are calling Sens GM Pierre Dorion to enquire about the services of defenseman Cody Ceci.

It’s also believed that the Sens held firm on not including Ceci in the Duchene deal, so does this mean that things have changed in Ottawa so quickly? By seemingly giving up on a young defenseman with such a high ceiling, are the Sens admitting defeat and signalling a rebuild?

Ottawa Sun columnist Bruce Garrioch admits that pressure is mounting on Dorion and the Sens and that a trade is likely coming “down the line”. Stay tuned, Sens fans.
