Usually, as the saying says, where there is smoke, there is fire. And now, it looks like a huge flame in Ottawa as "Hockey Trivia expert and author Liam Maguire is hearing that the Ottawa Senators have been sold by Eugene Melnyk to a group including Ottawa 67's and RedBlacks owner Jeff Hunt."

Rumors has been circulating for several weeks now that the Senators, who are in the midst of getting a new arena building downtown, could be on the selling block as Melnyk was looking around for interested parties.

Last week, TSN's Hockey Insider Darren Dreger told CFRA's Morning Rush, "A sale is more speculative than anything else."

"There are very wealthy people in Canada who have interest in becoming NHL owners. But the difference is, you have to have a willing participant to buy an NHL team and Eugene Melnyk, in the moment, is not interested in selling the Ottawa Senators. That's just as bluntly as we can put it. Again, I've got that from multiple sources."

Could there be a shocking official announcement coming soon?

The rumors have intensified with the NHL's agreement to open the expansion process to a team in Seattle. The Calgary Flames have also faced some issues that have hinted at sale and relocation.

Things seem to be getting worse for the Sens, who are currently on a bad losing streak...

We will keep an eye on this for sure!
