This is a name we never hear in any trade rumor but superstar center Nicklas Backstrom could potentially be put on the block by the Washington Capitals.

According to Josh Rubin, Backstrom, who's arguably one of the best forward in all the NHL, would be falling out of favor with head coach Barry Trotz and could become available to the right price.

Considering that the Capitals got rid of names like Justin Williams, Marcus Johansson, Kevin Shattenkirk and Karl Alzner it is no surprise that their window of opportunity is now pretty much closed and it would make sense to sell high on certain players.

Is Nicolas Backstrom falling out of favor with Barry Trotz? Is he a player who could use a fresh start? Definitely hearing murmurs that indicates "yes".

Aged 29, Backstrom has an impressive 742 points in 752 career games so far and still have 3 years left to a contract paying him $6.7 million per year.

The question now i what would it cost to acquire him? [pub]
