Rumor: the Penguins could be shopping a key forward!

That's actually pretty interesting.

We reported earlier this week that the Pittsburgh Penguins are very much looking to make a trade. According to various sources (that were then confirmed by TSN insider Darren Dreger), the defending Stanley Cup Champions have been rumored to be on the market for a goaltender for some time now.

The Hockey News' Lyle Richardson confirmed who general manager Jim Rutherford may be willing to use as a "trade bait" to acquire a veteran goaltender:

"Sam Werner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette doubts Patric Hornqvist will get shopped. While the 30-year-old right winger is eligible next summer for unrestricted free agent status, he's a vital part of their roster, particularly at playoff time. Werner suggested Carl Hagelin as a more likely candidate. He thinks Rutherford would like to shed the 29-year-old left winger's $4-million annual cap hit and perhaps put some of the savings toward re-signing Hornqvist."

Werner added that he believes that it may be hard to trade Hagelin, since he hasn't been playing as well as he should have since the start of the season. He only recorded one goal and one assist in 20 games with the Penguins.
