You can't blame Joe Sakic for trying but this may make you wonder if he does genuinely want to trade two of his top forwards in Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog.

Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion admitted that he had spoken to Sakic as of late but would not comment on what players were discussed, however he did say that the talks fell apart because Sakic was asking too high a price.

How high? Well according to Senators insider Bruce Garrioch we are talking absurdly high.

The belief is, the Avs want Ottawa defenceman Cody Ceci, a first-round pick in 2017, along with one of the club’s two blue-chip prospects — Saint John blueliner Thomas Chabot or Boston College centre Colin White — plus a couple of other parts in return for Duchene or Landeskog.

That is a gigantic asking price and one that is likely enough to give every team pause, and likely enough to turn some teams off negotiations entirely. Whether Sakic believes someone will genuinely pay that price or is merely bluffing prior to the trade deadline remains to be seen.
