It's been a great start to the National Hockey League season in terms of excitement for hockey fans with high-scoring games and a number of surprises early in the season but it hasn't been great for everyone.

In a recent article for ESPN three members of the ESPN hockey crew each touched on a head coach that they believe is currently in danger of being fired, and they came up with a list of three names. While two names on the list don't come as a huge surprise, one of the names is a shocker.

The first and least surprising pick on the list came from Emily Kaplan who picked New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault. While his success as a head coach wouldn't make him an obvious favorites, there have been rumors about his future with the team for several weeks now and it feels like it's just a matter of time.

Up next was Greg Wyshynski's pick and that was head coach Bill Peters of the Carolina Hurricanes. This is more surprising that Vigneault's if only due to the fact that there have been no rumors at all regarding a potential firing of Peters in the near future. The Hurricanes head coach has performed well behind the bench according to many pundits, and Wyshynski seems to be putting a great deal of weight on a lack of playoff appearances for Peters.

Last and certainly not least is the truly shocking pick from ESPN writer Chris Peters. Peters selected Edmonton Oilers head coach Todd McLellan who he believes could be in trouble now that the Oilers are just 3 points away from being at the very bottom of the National Hockey League's standings.

While the firing of McLellan would send shock waves through the NHL at this stage of the regular season, given the current performance of the Oilers and the lofty expectations they had for this season, it's not outsider the realm of possibility.
