Rumor: Trade brewing between the Leafs and Canucks?
KeyStone Press

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been on the hunt for a quality defenseman, a blue liner that will ensure great puck protection and size to the Canadian team's back end. And why not look to another Canadian club to make a trade and bolster the blue line?

In a recent appearance on the Jeff Blair Show, TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie said there was some interest around the league in Vancouver Canucks defenseman Erik Gudbranson. The journalist added that the Leafs have included Gudbranson among their targets for stay-at-home blueliners.

It was also rumoured that the Leafs have looked to the Colorado Avalanche for Tyson Barrie, and also to the Anaheim Ducks to inquire about Sami Vatanen. But Gudbranson is set for unrestricted free agency next summer and a change of scenery could do him some good.

The Province’s Ben Kuzma recently observed that Gudbranson’s leadership and size is a great asset for the Canucks and would be for rival clubs as well. While the Leafs are among the league leaders in shots-against per game with 33.5, Gudbranson's acquisition could come in handy.

Let's see where this rumor leads and if the Leafs will have the perfect deal to land the 25-year-old defenseman.
