The Vegas Golden Knights are becoming the story of the 21st century - as far as the NHL is concerned anyways. They've completely surpassed all expectations, and have already broken numerous records set by previous expansion teams.

Yes - they were afforded every opportunity to make theirs the best expansion team in history, yet most believed that general manager George McPhee squandered the gift handed to him on a silver platter by making questionable choices and failing to execute on the trade front as he had planned, leaving him with a large surplus of fringe NHL'ers.

Yet, now they are 4 points out of 1st in the NHL, and hold a game in hand on the Tampa Bay Lightning

They hold a point in hand on their divisional rivals, the Los Angeles Kings, plus they have 3 games in hand to make that a potential 7-point stranglehold on the Pacific division.

It was reported this summer that the Golden Knights, along with the Montreal Canadiens and some other teams, had interest in European star Stephane Da Costa

An injury halted the discussions, and delayed the start to his season. As a result, he's only played 16 out of Genette Servette's 35 games in the Swiss-A Hockey League, so while his points total (16) isn't tops on the team, it's by far the best points-per-game rate, sitting at a clean 1 PPG.

It has now been reported that Vegas is circling back on him as they prepare for a playoff run.

The 28-year-old could provide some nice speed and depth to a team that had seemingly no chance of finishing out of the league's bottom 5.

Might they actually be building towards a Stanley Cup run this year?
