One National Hockey League captain may be about to do the unthinkable, waiving his no trade clause to be traded for the first time in his NHL career.

Over the week-end Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman discussed the possibility of veteran Shane Doan waiving his no-trade, and Friedman believes it's a very real possibility that Doan will in fact consider the option if it means going to a contender.

Interestingly enough, Friedman also believes that the Coyotes will look to do right by Doan, even though he feels they will get almost nothing in return in a trade of Doan at this stage of his career.

From Friedman via the Hockey News:

“(The Coyotes are) looking at it like, ‘He’s not going to be here forever, we have to see who else can be the leaders of the team, maybe we might have to move on, but we want to put Shane Doan in a situation where he’d be happy.’ ”

Doan has been a member of this organization since they were the original Winnipeg Jets, and has been captain of the Coyotes for well over a decade at this point, but despite how strange it would be to see him in a new uniform, it would be great to see what he could add to a contending team towards the twilight of his career.
