We have an interesting situation developing in Montreal with a pair of conflicting reports that could drastically impact the future of defenseman Victor Mete with the Montreal Canadiens. As of right now we don't know who to believe so we will be presenting you both sides of the story as it were.

The first came courtesy of TSN's Salim Nadim Valji who reported on Saturday night that the 22 year old blue liner had formally requested a trade out of Montreal, adding that the Canadiens would be working in conjunction with Mete's agent Darren Ferris in an effort to facilitate a trade out of town.

Up until this point there hadn't really been any rumblings regarding Mete's desire to seek a change of scenery, but given that he has consistently found himself a healthy scratch to start the regular season it's not hard to envision a world in which he would prefer a new home. Mete was selected in the 4th round (100th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Habs and there were reports as recently as last week suggesting that he had been drawing interest from opposing teams.

That being said there is at least one conflicting report on this matter and it comes from Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports who has received word directly from Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin. The Habs GM has told Lavoie in no uncertain terms that he has received no formal trade request from Mete or from his agent Darren Ferris, so who knows what to believe at this point?

Interestingly enough, if the report regarding Mete's trade request proves to be true, this would be the second time a client represented by Darren Ferris has requested a trade today. Just earlier today former Calgary Flames first round draft pick Sam Bennett made it known that he wanted out of Calgary, and Bennett is of course represented by Ferris.

In that case Ferris would confirm that his client had requested a trade, but at the time of this writing we have heard of no such confirmation from Ferris regarding Mete.

Update: Ferris does appear to have confirmed a trade request from Mete.
