The Las Vegas Golden Knights have reportedly come to terms on another huge deal with one of their core players, but there has to now be serious concern over how the team will get under the salary cap ahead of the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season.

It was TSN National Hockey League insider Pierre LeBrun who initially broke the news, revealing that he expected that the Golden Knights forward would be signed at some point over the next week. Additionally LeBrun revealed that Karlsson would be signing a max term deal with the Golden Knights as well, meaning that he will be under contract with the organization for the next 8 years. What LeBrun did not reveal in his report however is how much Karlsson would be expected to earn over the 8 year term of his new deal.

That however is when TSN National Hockey League insider Bob McKenzie chimed in a few moments later, revealing that he expects the forward will earn somewhere just under $6 million in average annual value. That is a very reasonable number for a player that is just one season removed from an outstanding 43 goal regular season, although admittedly those numbers dropped considerably in his most recent NHL season.

The move provides a major problem for the Golden Knights however, as they are currently already over the NHL's salary cap limit for the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season. That is to say that even prior to this deal being official the Golden Knights are already over the limit, which means that they will be going way over that limit when Karlsson's new deal kicks in. This of course means that the Golden Knights will be unloading salary during the upcoming offseason, which means you should be paying close attention to their moves over the course of the next several days.
