Rumored trade deal between Habs and Wild may be falling apart.

The Montreal Canadiens and the Minnesota Wild have been rumored to be in trade talks for several days now, but the deal may be falling apart.

Minnesota Wild insider Mike Russo of the Star Tribune is now reporting that the expansion draft is causing major headaches for the Wild, and that while they may be interested in making a deal with the Habs that includes either Jonas Brodin or Marco Scandella, those headaches may be proving to be a major roadblock.

From Russo's report:

The Wild has also had trade talks with Montreal regarding Alex Galchenyuk, but late Friday, a source close to the Canadiens was starting to doubt they would be able to acquire Brodin or Scandella, a Montreal native the Habs have also inquired about. The reason being, the source felt, was how complicated it would be for the Wild to add another forward needing to be protected.

It's been no secret that Montreal has been looking at a potential trade of Galchenyuk, and with their desire to add to the blue line it makes sense that he could be part of a deal to bring Jonas Brodin to Montreal. That being said, it wouldn't provide any help for the wild at the expansion draft, and as a result that may force Minnesota to look for other solutions.

Russo:

Also, trading Scandella would mean the Wild was still at risk of losing the exposed Brodin or Dumba in expansion unless the Wild knew it had a prearranged deal done with Vegas not to take the exposed defenseman.

Expect some big moves in the next 24 hours as general managers scramble to get deals done.
