Rumour: Vegas to go back to Fleury in net!

They might not have any other choice at this point…

Let’s not panic here and start with the positive : Marc-Andre Fleury is a talented goalie with tons of playoff experience. Furthermore, nothing has been confirmed by the Vegas Golden Knights. Oh yeah, what are we talking about here? Sorry, it’s the panic getting our words mixed up: there is a rumour that star netminder Robin Lehner sustained an injury in last night’s 3-2 overtime loss at the hands of the Dallas Stars.

And we’re not sure what that means moving for the Golden Knights who look to get back to the Stanley Cup final for the second time in the past two years, but it could mean that head coach Peter DeBoer will be forced to trust Flower in between the pipes for a couple of games of the Western Conference final series.

Many insiders pointed out during last night’s contest that Lehner appeared to be hurting. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period believes his groin might be causing him pain. The Golden Knights might consider sitting him for a game in order to prevent aggravating the injury.

While he appeared shaken off after the third period, Lehner was back in net for the overtime, but it lasted less than a minute, so...

Lehner might also want to sign the rumoured five-year extension sitting on the table for him in Vegas. It is believed that Lehner and Vegas have a 5-year contract extension in place, agreed upon prior to the Return to Play plan.

We can’t argue that Lehner deserves the deal, but we wouldn’t like to see his performance get worse because of an injury and him paying for it literally.

We will have to keep an eye on this prior to Saturday’s Game 4. The Stars lead the series 2-1 thanks to last night’s overtime win, in which Lehner looked to have hurt himself.
