Ryan Dzingel traded in shocking deal involving 2 players and 3 draft picks.

We have another shocker ladies and gentlemen.

According to a breaking news report from Sportsnet's National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman the Columbus Blue Jackets have once again pulled the rug out from under everyone and swept in at the last minute for another huge trade. This time the Blue Jackets have acquired yet another Ottawa Senators forward, this time 26 year old winger Ryan Dzingel, in yet another big time trade with the Ottawa Senators.

The Senators in the deal give up both the aforementioned Dzingel as well as a 7th round draft choice in 2019, a pick that is now held by the Senators but once belonged to the Calgary Flames, and in exchange they get forward Anthony Duclair as well as a second round pick in 2020 and an additional second round pick in 2021. This is a pretty significant haul for Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion and there is little doubt in my mind that the level of the offer from the Blue Jackets here likely surpassed anything else he was being offered at the time.

 This clearly denotes the fact that the Blue Jackets and general manager Jarmo Kekalainen are going absolutely all in for the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs and this also signals to me that it is extremely unlikely that neither Blue Jackets' star forward Artemi Panarin nor Blue Jackets' star goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky will be dealt ahead of the trade deadline for the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season. The Blue Jackets already added star center Matt Duchene in a trade with the Senators earlier this week and that should help dispel one of the major concerns some had when it came to talk surrounding a Dzingel trade.

The young forward has never produced at the level at which he has this season and many suspect, and rightfully so, that it has a fair bit to do with the fact that he has played alongside the aforementioned Duchene as well as Mark Stone. Well Dzingel will be reunited with at least half of that previous pairing now that Duchene is already a Blue Jacket so that should help him maintain his current form.

As for the only other player in this deal Anthony Duclair has really fallen out of favor since his rookie season and this has resulted in him bouncing from team to team several times now. He will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season but it remains to be seen if the Ottawa Senators will even extend him a qualifying offer at that point.
