The UFA market opening day is always a pretty special moment in the NHL. All fans wish for immense trade that will put their own team ahead of the competition for years to come, but GMs know the true result is building depth for your organization.

This is precisely what the Sabres have done today by signing centerman Jacob Josefson to a one year deal worth 700,000$.

The Swede is arguably not the most spectacular goal scorer in the league, with a meager 60 points in 276 career games. However, the 6', 190lbs 26 years old has become a quality shutdown forward and showed a +/- of -1 last season in New Jersey. It might not be the best statistic around to evaluate player, but breaking even in a failing franchise is no picnic either.

He will had some options to the Buffalo roster, which badly needs a bit of defensive stability.

Welcome to Buffalo, sir!
