The Buffalo Sabres are dealing with more bad news. Veteran forward Vladimir Sobotka underwent successful surgery on his right knee and is expected to be out indefinitely, the team announced this morning.

The 32-year-old was injured Nov. 8 against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Stockholm, Sweden. At first, the Sabres said he would miss four to six weeks.

However, team doctors decided surgery would be the appropriate action for the Czech’s recovery, meaning the Sabres have no clue now when he will be able to return to action.

Some fans are demanding that the NHL Player Safety take another look at the hit that sidelined Sobotka. Sobotka was injured when star Nikita Kucherov hit him low and late in 3-2 loss to the Lightning.

The Sabres, who have lost defenseman Rasmus Dahlin this week, also deal with five injured forwards.

Sobotka has recorded one goal and three points in 16 games this season.
