Earlier today, Patrik Laine and the Winnipeg Jets agreed to a two-year,$13.5-million contract on Friday. The deal comes just six days before the Jets’ season opener in New York against the Rangers.

Now, that’s the good news. However, a rumour has surfaced that the Buffalo Sabres have made a move to try and acquire Laine and they are trying to pull at the Jets’ heartstrings and desperate need for a boost on the back end.

The Jets are believed to be looking at the option of landing a top defenseman on the trade market, especially after losing Jacob Trouba, Ben Chariot and Tyler Myers over the course of the summer.

According to Wheel House Hockey, the Sabres have reportedly offer to send defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, forward Conor Sheary and two first round picks to the Jets to acquire Laine.

This is quite the blockbuster! It remains to be seen if the Jets will be tempted!

Laine has 110 goals and 184 points in 237 regular-season NHL games in his career. He’s added 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) in 23 playoff outings.

The Jets could consider this offer if ever blue liner Dustin Byfuglien decides to retire as he remains on a leave of absence to consider his future in the NHL.
