With the Stanley Cup now awarded, the Sabres have all the liberty in the world to interview any candidate for the head coach position they like. In fact, the team could have hired someone at any point since Dan Bylsma was fired, but we learned a few days ago that Penguins member would make the Sabres' short list.
Speaking of which, that very shortlist has been revealed by insider Stephen Whyno today.
It would be tempting to see Rick Tocchet as the most valid candidate, he who lifted the Cup only 12 hours ago. However, Phil Housley's reputation with young players is stellar and he's obviously part of the amazing renaissance that happened in Nashville in the last few years. Todd Reirden is also known as a very solid guy who earns the respect of his players quickly, which would come pretty handy in Buffalo after all the drama of the last few months.
We will follow this one closely!
