This just in, former Chicago Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes goaltender has signed a pro-rated one-year contract with HC Innsbruck in the Austrian EBEL.

Check it out:

Darling was bought out of his four year, $16.6 million contract this past summer after the Hurricanes shipped his contract off to the Florida Panthers. He struggled to find consistency after signing his deal with the Hurricanes, but he was a big part of the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup championship in 2015.

The Innsbruck sharks land a sensational transfer and bring with goalkeeper Scott Darling a Stanley Cup champion.
All of a sudden, everything went really fast. From the first contact to the final signature, it only took a few days. Shortly after the important 3-1 home win against Fehervar on Sunday, it was then official: Stanley Cup champion Scott Darling reinforced the Innsbruck sharks for the rest of the season. “I know Scott a bit, met him in Las Vegas last summer. Last week, surprisingly, I got the call and Scott asked if he could play with us. We were all very surprised, did not think that it would be affordable for us. But Scott just wants to play and then everything went very fast. I think that if you have the chance to bring such a name to Innsbruck and it’s on budget, then you have to seize this opportunity. It’s a great addition to the city, the club and the whole league “,
Scott Darling is expected in Innsbruck on Wednesday and will take the place of goalkeeper CJ Motte for the remainder of the season. “We had a long conversation with CJ. We certainly did not make our decision easy. But if you get this opportunity, you just have to grab it. CJ is a good boy and I want to thank him for the opportunity to have a happy future, but also to say thank you, “says Goalie coach Mitch O’Keefe.
Darling will train for the first time this Friday with the team in the TIWAG Arena.
