He was right to call him out, however, this may be going too far…

Twitter

Retired NHLer Sean Avery has over 136,000 Instagram followers and he loves to get them to react when he posts his colourful videos and analysis on the NHL and everyday life.

But he sure got one follower to react strongly when he posted a vulgar Instagram video criticizing some of the actions of Boston Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk and defending Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri, who’d been kicked out of the game and eventually suspended for the remainder of the first-round series for his actions.

Avery was looking over at the comments when he noticed that Raymond Fortino made an online racial slur. The former NHL player researched the man, called him out and threatened to put the Ancaster dentist out of business if he didn’t make a donation to the charity of his choice.

“You’ve decided to come to my page … and spew racial hate,” a clearly offended Avery responded.
“Bro if I put you on blast you go out of business with your racist b-s-” telling Fortino he had 30 minutes to send proof of a donation to a charity of his choice to avoid having his words made public.
“The moment I read that, I proceeded to click on the bio of this individual,” Avery says.

Raymond tried to let Avery know that the business was his brother’s and not his, but the enforcer didn’t care.

“Joseph was not affiliated at all with this,” their mother, Ivan explained to the Toronto Star. “He is suffering, but this is not him at all.”

In the end, Raymond obliged; the 25-year-old informed his parents about the situation, apologized profusely for his actions and quickly made a donation using his father’s credit card. When he posted proof however, Avery had changed his mind.

“I changed my mind,” Avery said. “F- you,” he said, postingthe whole exchange online for public view.

The mother agrees that Raymond’s comments were horrible and that they don’t condone it in their home. However, we can understand how heartbroken she is to see her other son suffer from this.

“Fortino Dental has no involvement or association with any of the comments made,” said a statement from the dental office issued Monday afternoon. “Fortino Dental has been wrongly and inappropriately targeted. Dr. Joseph Fortino and all those at Fortino Dental work tirelessly to maintain a commitment to providing a safe, inclusive and respectful environment. Fortino Dental has been misrepresented on social media, to its detriment. Raymond Fortino does not work for and is not associated with Fortino Dental.”

While the mother says Raymond has never worked for his brother, Avery demands proof.

“I don’t talk in hypotheticals,” he says asking Raymond to produce his T4 slip. “Let’s see then.”

Avery still finds a way to hurt people off the ice…
