Seattle finally provides an update on team name and logo

We’re still over a year away from Seattle taking the ice in the NHL, but we’re FINALLY nearing an announcement on the league’s 32nd team. When the team’s management group named Ron Francis as their first general manager in history, they also announced that a team name would be chosen and made public in “early 2019.” Well… we’re now halfway through 2020 and we’re still waiting… so what gives?

While several ideas have been pitched from fans and media alike, the Seattle group has never formally endorsed or denied any options. They did, however, register 38 different Internet domain names representing 13 different team names.

They are:

* Seattle Cougars
* Seattle Eagles
* Seattle Emeralds
* Seattle Evergreens
* Seattle Firebirds
* Seattle Kraken
* Seattle Rainiers
* Seattle Renegades
* Seattle Sea Lions
* Seattle Seals
* Seattle Sockeyes
* Seattle Totems
* Seattle Whales

Now, though the team has pulled back any plans on releasing a name or logo in the near future.

Owner Tim Leiweke also told the Seattle Times that the unveiling franchise’s name, logo and jerseys will likely take place in October, 2020.

“It’s not the right time,” Leiweke said. “Vegas did it a year out. We’ve got ample time, and the thing this organization will never be is tone deaf. So we’ve got to pick the right time, and we’ve got to make sure all of our ducks are in a row.”

This is right after Leiweke announced that an official unveiling would have taken place in February or March, which of course did not happen.

In all honesty, my money’s on the Seattle Sockeyes or the Seattle Totems. Thoughts?
