Senators ready to pull stunning move during free agency!

The NHL Draft lottery was a disappointing event for the Ottawa Senators, who had great chances of landing the first overall pick but ended up with the third and fifth selections instead.

However, we bet general manager Pierre Dorion will still be able to make great additions to his rebuilding roster in hopes of putting together a strong future contender. And with that in mind, Pierre McGuire of NBC Sports reported a shocking piece of news on the air of TSN 1200 Thursday, one that could be a major game-changer for the Senators for the upcoming season.

According to McGuire, the Senators could manage to convince Stanley Cup champion goalie Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals to sign with Ottawa in the offseason.

Holtby is set to become an unrestricted free agent once the playoff tournament is over and the cap space could be too tight in Washington to keep the star goalie, who will command a heft pay check. Many insiders believe the Caps might be tempted to gamble it all on young netminder Ilya Samsonov, would is ready to take the starting role and will only cost the Caps an entry-level amount.

If the Senators cannot convince Holtby to come to the Canadian capital city,  TSN analyst Craig Button suggests going after Vegas Golden Knights’ Robin Lehner, who will also become an unrestricted free agent and could look to come back home to Ottawa, where his NHL career began.

We are starting to wonder if this means that veteran goalie Craig Anderson, who will also hit unrestricted free agency, won’t be returning to the team, who could simply let him go.

We do believe that the Senators will have a much better roster next season - there is no doubt about it - and it could certainly have quite the upgrade in between the pipes!
