Sens attendance woes hit an embarrassing new low

Despite starting the 2018-19 season off strongly, the Ottawa Senators have cooled lately going 4-4-2 over the last ten games. On the ice things aren’t pretty, off the ice they’re even uglier though…

The Senators have made headlines over the years due to their paltry attendance and they currently rank 29th in team attendance with an average of just 14,305 fans per game. In 2016 the team’s event staff was forced to tarp off sections of Canadian Tire Centre due to a lack of ticket sales… during the Eastern Conference Final. But now the team’s attendance woes have hit a new low.

According to multiple reports, the city of Ottawa has reduced the number of transit busses out to Canadian Tire Centre due to poor ridership. Check out this report from Complete Hockey News:

The OC Transpo is reducing the number of busses travelling to the Canadian Tire Centre due to low ridership numbers.
The Senators currently have the 3rd lowest attendance in the NHL, averaging 14,305 people per game, ahead of TakeWarning (12,846) the Isles (10,701).

Ouch… that’s not a good look. Especially for a Canadian franchise…

Of course, the team’s two best forwards, Matt Duchene and Mark Stone, are pending unrestricted free agents so there’s a chance that things could get even worse for the Sens. Worse yet? Due to the Duchene trade with the Colorado Avalanche last season, they can’t even look forward to this summer’s 2019 NHL Entry Draft as their first round pick was included in a package to land Duchene. Double ouch.
