The Saint John Sea Dogs are on the verge of sweeping the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the President Cup Championship finals. Saint John has a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, in no small part thanks to the efforts of Thomas Chabot.

If the Sea Dogs take home the QMJHL’s biggest prize with a win tonight, Chabot is the hands down favourite to take home the Guy Lafleur Trophy, awarded to the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs.

The 20-year-old defenseman has put up 3 goals and 10 assists for 13 points across Saint John’s 11 Playoff games. He’s been a force both offensively and defensively for the Sea Dogs, both in the playoffs and during the regular season.

The Sainte-Marie, Quebec native had another outstanding season, registering 10 goals and 35 assists in 34 games for his second straight 45-point season.

Chabot has been a linchpin for the Sea Dogs’ success, and he’s been a huge reason why the team has only dropped two of their seventeen postseason games.

Not to undersell his teammates and coaches, but Ottawa’s first overall draft pick from 2015 has been putting on a spectacular show in the playoffs, and will likely be rewarded for it if the Sea Dogs can finish off Armada.

It’s hard to find a player who deserves the Guy Lafleur Trophy more, unless of course Blainville-Boisbriand can find someone to lead them to an absolutely epic comeback. Stranger things have happened, but Armada will have to find a way through Chabot first.
