The Ottawa Senators announced the signing of long time veteran Mark Borowiecki to a two year deal.

As reported by Frank Seravelli of TSN, the contract is worth $2.4 million, split over the two seasons, giving an annual average value of $1.2 million.

The Ottawa-native has played his entire career for the Senators, after being drafted in the 5th round in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The defenseman is a bruiser first and foremost - he won't put up points, as evidenced by his 17 points in 217 career NHL games.

Borowiecki led the league in hits, with 364. He's entering the last year on his current deal which pays $1.1 million a year.

“It’s time to unleash the beast a little bit.” - Mark Borowiecki to the Ottawa Sun
