Sens star forward FINALLY bumps the slump

When Ottawa Senators sniper Mark Stone finally scored at Canadian Tire Centre last night to bump his two month goal scoring slump, the relief was written all over his face. As the 24 year-old forward heard his name over the arena’s loudspeaker, fans could even make out the forward mouthing, “…FINALLY.”

Ottawa Sun writer Don Brennan profiled Stone’s scoring slump in an excellent article that really puts his struggles into perspective. During the two month and two day span between goals, Stone played 20 games and approximately 450 shifts without tickling the twine.

His goal to open the scoring in Friday’s game against the Boston Bruins was huge, but unfortunately for the Sens, it wasn’t enough as the Bruins came out of the contest with a 3-2 overtime victory. The good news is that the Senators get another chance to eliminate the Bruins on Sunday evevning at TD Garden in Boston. Maybe it’s time for Stone to start a new streak? Goals in consecutive games? Sens fans would sure love it if he could.
