Long-time Arizona Coyores Shane Doan announced his retirement as a National hockey League player earlier this summer, however Doan's career in the NHL appears to be far from over.

The NHL has officially announced that Doan will be joining the ranks of their front office and will begin working under Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. Campbell has released a statement on the matter:

"We are thrilled to welcome Shane, whose vast experience and in-depth knowledge of the game will be invaluable to the League office," Campbell said. "We look forward to calling upon his two decades of playing experience - particularly his incomparable understanding of the game as it is being played today."

Doan, who has over 1,500 games of NHL experience under his belt, is now expected to work very closely with hockey executives on the club level and will also have a role in the NHL's Competition Committee.

It will be interesting to see if Doan goes the way of that some other former NHL players have in the past, using a large role in the NHL's front office to prepare for an eventual management role with an NHL organization.
