San Jose Sharks forward Chris Tierney has reportedly signed a new one-year contract with the team worth $735,000.

The 23 year-old centerman scored 11 goals and 23 points last season for the Sharks, both career highs. He mostly spent time on the team’s third line, but also had a stint on the fourth line when forward Tomas Hertl experimented with the center ice position.

Regardless of his role next season, his new deal has to be seen as a total bargain for the Sharks. Adding a young, capable forward equally adept at playing anywhere in the team’s bottom nine group is a valuable addition. Factor in that he’s earning less than three quarters of a million against the cap and it’s a huge win for the Sharks.

With Tierney’s deal now done, Sharks GM Doug Wilson will turn his focus to the team’s last remaining un-signed restricted free agents, Barclay Goodrow and Marcus Sorensen.
