Alright, we can all be happy for defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk for finding work so quickly after his contract was bought out by the New York Rangers last week.

On Monday morning, the Tampa Bay Lightning announced that they had signed the veteran blue liner to a one-year contract, worth $1.75 million. He also got a no-trade clause protection in his new deal.

Last week, the Rangers proceeded to buy out the contract of the defenseman. Shattenkirk played only two seasons after signing a $26.6 million, four-year contract with New York. He had just seven goals and 44 assists in 119 games.

But Shattenkirk has to be kidding when he says he was shocked when the Rangers bought him out!

After signing with the Bolts, Shattenkirk commented on the situation with the Rangers and not only dared to say he didn’t see the buyout coming, he also took several shots at the Blue Shirts in the process, per Stephen Whyno.

“I was pretty pissed off about it,” Shattenkirk said, adding he was shocked.
“I think I have a huge chip on my shoulder right now. It didn’t work out with injuries and performance and with the way the direction of the team, the way that kind of deteriorated from when I signed on July 1 to now.”
“I think I’m pissed off at myself for not taking advantage of the opportunity to play at home better and give them a reason to make it a no-brainer that this wouldn’t be their decision.”

He even added that he is not a fan of the Rangers’ rebuild. Well, good thing they did not include you anymore!

He has to think quite highly of himself for thinking that he did not deserved to be bought out.

Shattenkirk sure got a confidence boost on Monday when it was revealed, after he signed with Tampa Bay, that more than five other teams were in the mix to try and land his services.

They all need a reality check!
