Shaw absolutely loses it after Backlund attacks the Canadiens' bench!

He could have gotten in serious trouble...

Things heated up quickly in the third period of the game between the Calgary Flames - no pun intended - and the Montreal Canadiens last night. Habs goaltender Carey Price was back to his old self, stopping 43 shots in the 3-2. The winning goal was scored Arturri Lehkonen with just over seven minutes left, and the Flames weren't happy about it...

Right after Lehkonen found a way to push the puck past Flames netminder Mike Smith in the third period, both sides exchanged such harsh words that Flames forward Mikael Backlund felt the need to cross-check Jonathan Drouin while he was off the ice. Drouin was sitting at the bench and a fed up Backlund attacked him and you can guess that teammate Andrew Shaw was having none of it.

Shaw completely lost it when his teammate was aggressively cross-checked on the bench and had to be contained by some players on the team's bench. You can see what took place in the videos here below:

Clearly, Shaw could have gotten in trouble if he had decided to jump on the ice to make Backlund pay for his actions. However, his teammates managed to hold him back and Shaw calmed himself down before it was too late. Backlund ultimately received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the play.

So far, Backlund has not received any further discipline going forward.

Calgary out-shot Montreal 45-22 but couldn’t find a way to get the best of Price in the end. The Habs will face the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.
