Sheldon Keefe provides an update on Tyson Barrie's injury.

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost defenseman Tyson Barrie on Saturday night but the good news is it sounds like he has avoided the worst of it, at least as far as we know at the moment.

One of the first questions asked of Toronto Maple Leafs' head coach Sheldon Keefe following the game was regarding the health of his defenseman and the head coach had some good news to share. Although the Leafs have not released an official medical update regarding the health and status of Tyson Barrie, Keefe did reveal that the initial x-rays had come back negative thus far which would indicate that this is unlikely to be a long term type of injury for the veteran defenseman. That is of course terrific news for the Maple Leafs who picked up another big win on Saturday night under Sheldon Keefe, this time over Connor McDavid and his slumping Edmonton Oilers.

No update other than his x-rays he had were negative, but he just didn't feel comfortable enough to go back," said Keefe on Saturday following another big win for his team. "So we'll have to just see how he is when we get home."

Overall this has been a very good road trip for the Toronto Maple Leafs and it seems to have left the new National Hockey League head coach in pretty good spirits, it would have been a shame for this Barrie injury to leave a stain on the Leafs recent run of form. Keefe was quick to praise his team for their progress on the road trip and even appeared to suggest that things may be even better than they appear on the surface.

"It's been a bit of a roller coaster; lots of positive things, lots of really good things that are covered up a little bit by the nature of the way some of the games went and some of the chances that we gave up...it masked some of the really good things."

We will likely have more information to share regarding the status of Tyson Barrie following Keefe's next media availability, but as I have stated so far things are looking good given the context.
