Shocking rumors involving Carey Price coming out of Montreal.

There has been an ugly rumor regarding Montreal Canadiens superstar Carey Price floating around for a few weeks now, but for the first time a reporter has attached himself to that rumor.

On Monday Habs reporter Rejean Tremblay was a guest on 98.1 Radio Xin Quebec when he was asked about the current situation regarding Carey Price's health, and furthermore how it is being handled by the Canadiens organization.

Tremblay hinted at the fact that he was skeptical regarding the nature of Price's injury, but it was his comments regarding the rumor that blew the doors off the interview.

"I am hearing the same rumors you guys are. Everyone in Quebec has heard the rumors. The rumor that his wife has said "we leave Montreal or we get a divorce," said the veteran reporter.

When asked about whether or not the reason for the threat was, as the rumors have suggested, due to an extra-marital adventure Price had in the past, Rejean answered in the affirmative.

The timing for the Canadiens of course could not be worse, the team has just signed Price to a massive contract that few teams would be willing to take on. Even worse however is the fact that Price is coming off arguably the worst stretch of his National Hockey League career as well as an injury to the same leg that sidelined him for an entire season.

The timing for Price isn't much better though, he is a relatively brand new father and to have his wife put this level of pressure on him could explain why he came out of the gate so poorly to start the season.

While Tremblay has no doubt been the most forward in speaking about this rumor, he isn't the only one raising questions about the situation in Montreal. On Sunday another long-time Habs reporter also wondered what really is going on right now.

From Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette:

The “minor” lower-body injury Carey Price suffered more than two weeks ago is starting to fail the smell test.

Cowan even went so far as to suggest that an injury may not be the real reason behind Price's absence, asking if a trade might not be what the Canadiens really have in mind.

Or could it be something else? Could the Canadiens be looking to trade the 30-year-old goaltender before his new eight-year, US$84-million contract kicks in next season?

What seemed like a very far-fetched rumor when we first heard it two weeks ago is now starting to sound a great deal more credible. At the very least when there is this much smoke you have to be on the lookout for fire.
