Signing of former NHL captain this summer appears to be a total bust!

This looks terrible.

This is looking like one of the worst free agency signings of the summer, perhaps even the worst.

The New York Islanders committed not only huge money, but huge term to former National Hockey League captain Andrew Ladd over the summer, and in the process let some of their core players walk away in free agency, most notable among those being forwards Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen.

Now eleven games into the regular season that decision appears to be an unmitigated disaster, with Ladd having just one point through that stretch. To make matters worse, there is no way the Islanders are getting away from this mistake any time soon.

General manager Garth Snow gave Ladd a massive seven year contract with an average annual value of $5.5 million, so he's not going anywhere anytime soon, and even if the GM was willing to admit his mistake and look for a trade, it seems highly unlikely he would find anyone willing to take on that deal.

It's no surprise then that there has been rampant speculation about Snow's position on the hot seat in New York, with a significant segment of the fan base already calling for his job.

Ladd can still turn it around, it's a long season and there is plenty of time left to go, but thus far he looks like one of the worst signings of the summer.
