The Colorado Avalanche surprised a lot of fans and pundits when they started the season with star center Matt Duchene on their roster, but despite that there remains a belief that it's only a matter of time before general manager Joe Sakic pulls the trigger.

In a recent radio segment Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman indicated that he feels like the relationship between the two parties is about to come to an end.

“I think he’s going. I just think it’s a matter of when,” indicated Friedman. “I don’t think they’re going to be staying together for very long."

As for the team's that may still be in the running after all this time? Friedman listed the names of six National Hockey League organizations, organizations that he feels are still interested in the Avs star.

"I think Nashville is," said Friedman as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. "I think Columbus definitely is. I think Pittsburgh is. I think Calgary is. I still wonder if the Islanders are kind of around there. Ottawa has said that they’ve been interested. I still think all of those teams are circling."

When the deal finally gets done, if it gets done, it will be very interesting to see what kind of return Sakic manages to get his team after all this time.
