Son of former NHLer Peter Bondra signs professional tryout contract (PTO)

Those of us old enough to remember the Washington Capitals before the arrival of superstar Russian Alex Ovechkin will remember the team’s very first franchise player: Peter Bondra.

The Slovak forward spent most of his entire career with the Capitals and was the franchise’s all time point leader until Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom subsequently passed him.

Peter’s son, David Bondra, hasn’t come anywhere close to replicating his father’s success, but his strong play in the Slovak league has earned him a professional tryout (PTO) contract with the KHL’s Kunlun Red Star.

The 26 year old Bondra scored 22 goals and 35 points in 53 games with Poprad HK SKP of the Slovak Extraliga.
