Sonny Milano knocked out after a dangerous hit from Mark Borowiecki.

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Sonny Milano was in bad shape after this one and I feel pretty confident in saying that he is not likely to return to today's game.

The Blue Jackets were facing off against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday and things turned ugly for the Jackets when Milano was the victim of a nasty looking hit courtesy of Ottawa Senators bruiser Mark Borowiecki. Borowiecki has a well earned reputation as a man that players the game of hockey right up against the edge, and sometimes crosses the line, but although this hit was a nasty one I do not think it would be fair to blame the Ottawa Senators veteran for this incident.

Borowiecki appeared to be setting himself up for an attempt to stop the forward progress of Sonny Milano along the boards, but right as Borowiecki went to press himself up against those same boards the Blue Jackets forward lost his balance. This resulted in Milano seemingly tripping over his own feet and falling forward has he came off balance , which would not have been a problem on its own but turned out to be very bad in this scenario. Borowiecki and Milano came together right as the Blue Jackets forward fell down, resulting in Borowiecki delivering a big hit to Milano's back, a hit that sent Milano head first into the boards in the process.

The Blue Jackets forward would lay motionless on the ice for several long seconds after the hit itself, seemingly unconscious from the blow along the boards, and the concern for him from everyone around the play was plainly written on their faces. The Blue Jackets trainers came out to check on Milano right away but they seemed relatively unable to help in this situation, and eventually Milano was carried off of the ice by his fellow teammates. Even then though Milano appeared to be completely out of it, a sign that he may have had his brain rattled a little on this play.

Milano's teammate Josh Anderson did his best to stick up for Milano after the fact but it was too little too late. He did drop the gloves with Borowiecki following the hit but it was not much of a tilt.
