Over the week-end Tampa Bay Lightning star forward Steven Stamkos appeared to indicate that doctor's were putting him on experimental medication for his blood clots, but on Monday he stomped out those rumors.

According to a report from TSN's Frank Seravalli, the Lightning forward has not changed his medication, although he continues to be hopeful that a return to play is imminent. Seravalli reports that Stamkos confirmed he is still on the same meds, and that a decision, for better or for worse, is coming soon.

From Seravalli's report:

Stamkos confirmed on Monday that he has been taking the injectable blood-thinner Lovenox twice daily since his April 4 surgery to reduce the risk of a second clot forming.

Stamkos will not play in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference final. The only thing he really knows is that a final decision is nearing, one way or the other.

However Stamkos did appear to hint at a positive outcome as he played coy with reporters who asked him about a potential return to action.

"You’ll have to wait and find out,” Stamkos said with a smile.

However despite his optimism and hard work, there is still a very real possibility that hey may not play at all in this postseason.

“It’s been a process,” Stamkos said. “Whether it’s Game 3 or 4 or 5 [he returns] or coming to the reality that it’s not in the best interest of my long-term health to play in the playoffs, those are the questions that we’re getting closer to getting answered every day. …We could come to a conclusion after all of our research that it’s just not safe enough to play at all in these playoffs. That’s the reality that I’m living with.”
