What a journey it has been for enforcer Chris Thorburn, who has officially hanged up the skates on Friday.

His NHL career surely ended on a high, winning a Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues, who did so much to help the veteran and his family during their 2018-19 season.

While many expected the 36-year-old tough guy to spend most of his time in the American Hockey League, the Blues ended up calling him up  to the big team and played in one NHL game.

That allowed his NHL insurance to kick in and to remain in place until next season, which take care of the therapy and medication his autistic son Bennett requires.

He practised with the team throughout the playoff run and took part in the pregame skates. And then, celebrated the franchise’s first championship with the rest of the boys.

Thorburn, who has played in 801 NHL games, notching 53 goals and 81 assists, also collected 968 penalty minutes. He fought to stay in the league, he fought in the league and kept the focus on fighting for his family.

He deserves a happy retirement!
