Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty commented on his future ahead of All-Star game this weekend, and his comments might surprise you! In an interview with «The Hockey News» before the start of the season, Doughty stated that he would like to stay with the Kings after his contract expires (after the 2018-2019 season) only if the team stays competitive. These comments fed a lot of trade rumors around the 28-year old defenseman, and he did not deny them, until now!

As reported on Twitter by hockey insider Dennis Bernstein, Doughty never wanted to leave Los Angeles, but nobody really asked him. Everybody took his comments as a statement that he wanted to leave the Kings.

«I find it funny how people use your words, I truly never want to leave LA.»

-Drew Doughty

Drafted second overall by the Kings in 2008, Doughty played 737 games in the NHL so far, scoring 99 goals and 298 assists for a total of 397 points. He also added 51 points in 81 playoff games. He helped the Kings to win the Stanley Cup in 2012 and in 2014. Doughty also won the Norris trophy (best defenseman) for the 2015-2016 season.

The Kings are currently fourth in the Pacific division with a record of 26-18-5.
