The Las Vegas Golden Knights have already shown they are not afraid of making big moves and they may be looking at making their first big move involving an established National Hockey League player.

A report from The Fourth Period has revealed that the Golden Knights may use their exclusive free-agent negotiation window to target arguably the top available free agent on the market.

While Vegas is the go-to name for uncertainty due to the expansion draft, there is a possibility the Golden Knights go after pending free agent Kevin Shattenkirk.

The Washington Capitals will be the only team able to negotiate with him before July 1, but there is a two-day window, June 18-20, in which Vegas will be able to negotiate pending free agents.

Given his performance in the postseason, as well as what has felt like general dissatisfaction among the Capitals fan base surrounding the trade to acquire Shattenkirk at the deadline, it seems unlikely that any such offer would be forthcoming from the Capitals. This would mean the Golden Knights could swoop in with a major offer to secure Shattenkirk for their long-term future.
