Star player and team captain throws his team, and the entire organization under the bus.

If you're a fan of the Ottawa Senators the last thing you want to hear is that Erik Karlsson is unhappy, and if you're a fan of any other team the thought of him leaving Ottawa as a free agent has got to get you excited.

Karlsson, who is having a ridiculous season producing over a point a game as a defenseman, let his frustration with his situation show when he took a shot at his team through the media on Tuesday. According to TSN 1200 producer Graham Creech Karlsson let it be known that he felt his club didn't have the talent required to compete.

"We're a budget team", said Karlsson. "We don't have the players here that most high skill teams do. We're successful when we play a grinding game."

It was the only time he made the statement either, Karlsson would go on to repeat the statement later in the evening and that was picked up by several other reporters. It's clear he's voicing what he feels is a lack of commitment from ownership who do have a nice chunk of cap space to work with, and with Ottawa currently out of the playoff picture, it doesn't seem likely that Ottawa will attempt to add a big name in order to make a limited run at the Cup.

It's not like Karlsson will be a free agent this season, he has three more years left on his deal, but as the team's star player, and as the team's captain, him being disgruntled with his club is a very bad sign for Ottawa.
