Starting goaltender suffers injury during hot streak, out long term.

The St. Louis Blues have just suffered a huge loss right up against the National Hockey League's trade deadline.

The Blues have placed red hot goaltender Brian Elliott on injured reserve following an injury he suffered on Monday during a match up against the San Jose Sharks. Elliott was forced to leave the game and did not return, this just after goaltender Jake Allen had finally recovered from his own injury. Elliott was without a doubt the workhorse this season however, record a very impressive .929 save percentage over the course of 33 games in goal for St. Louis.

There hasn't been any kind of timetable provided for Allen's return, however the Blues have stated that he will be evaluated again four weeks from now, whether or not that means he will be close to a return at that time is unclear. One has to imagine if there is a real concern this injury could keep him out longer than that, the Blues may now be forced to look at goaltending options if they wish to make a serious push in the postseason.

The most attractive option would likely be Toronto's James Reimer, although it's not entirely clear whether or not the Maple Leafs intend to trade him at this point.
