Steve Yzeman wants to party with Ovechkin!

On Wednesday night, Alex Ovechkin scored the 693rd goal of his career, putting him in sole possession of ninth place on the all-time goals list, passing Steve Yzerman. 

The legend was, of course, thrilled for the Washington Capitals’ captain and sent him a congratulatory video to celebrate the feat. 

“Hey, Alex. Steve Yzerman from Detroit here,” he began. “I just wanted to congratulate you on moving into sole possession of ninth place on the league’s all-time scoring list. You’ve had a tremendous career to date and it looks like you’re going strong and you might play forever. Best of luck, and continued success. I really enjoyed watching you play and watching you fill in the net. All the best.”

However, the main thing fans noticed from his personal message to Ovi, is that Yzerman is ready to party with the Russian superstar. 

“Oh, and one more thing. If you ever do break Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record for most goals in the league, after watching your Stanley Cup celebrations, I wanna be invited to your party.”

We all remember how Ovechkin spent most of the 2018 summer partying and drinking to celebrate his championship. 

While Ovechkin still doubts he will pass Wayne Gretzky’s record and revealed he would retired if he makes it happen, we can only imagine how crazy that party would be. 

And with Yzerman present, we won’t want to miss it!
