There were a pair of waiver transactions in the National Hockey League on Sunday.

The Boston Bruins made a tough call Sunday when they placed veteran defenseman Steven Kampfer on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the Providence Bruins, their American Hockey League affiliate. Kampfer however will have to clear the waiver process before being sent down and of the 2 players waived today he seems the most likely to have a chance at being claimed. The 31 year old right shot defenseman has only had 4 appearances for the Bruins this season but in that time he has proven to be a valuable addition on the Bruins depth chart, one with over 200 games of NHL experience no less. Kampfer has no goals and no assists this season but he does have 2 penalty minutes and boasts a plus minus rating of +2 through those 4 games played.

The other player waived today is Colorado Avalanche forward T.J. Tynan who is likely destined for the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League. Tynan appeared in 14 games for the Avalanche this season picking up no goals and just a single assist while finishing with a plus minus rating of -1. It seems fair to suggest that Tynan's time with the Avalanche was entirely a product of injuries to the Avs lineup, something that will likely also impact the likelihood of the Avs calling him up again this season.

Neither of these are particularly big moves but the decision to waive form Kampfer from the Bruins definitely seems to be the weightier of the 2. Fans in Boston had a surprisingly passionate reaction today to the announcement from the Bruins with some fans calling for some of Kampfer's fellow Bruins to be sent down in his stead.

For a guy who has only appeared in 4 games for the Bruins this season he was getting plenty of love from the Boston Bruins faithful on social media today. As you can see below many are clearly concerned that the reliable veteran will be picked up by a rival team on the waiver wire.

Although not everyone agrees obviously.
