Subban to end up with the Canucks this summer?!

Because it was once meant to be…

Back in 2016, a major blockbuster trade caught the attention of the hockey world when the Montreal Canadiens traded defenseman P.K. Subban for Nashville Predators then-captain Shea Weber.

That’s all people talked about that summer - and believe some still do to this day in Montreal.

The conversation might get going again as the Predators are reportedly considering moving Subban seeing that important decisions will need to be made for the cap situation, especially that GM David Poile is looking to re-sign Roman Josi to a hefty contract extension.

Due to his $ 9 million contract per year, the Predators may want to get rid of Subban in order to have more leeway under the salary cap. The veteran blue liner still has three more seasons to his current deal and it has been reported many times that the Preds will need to make heartbreaking choices ahead of the 2020 draft for the new Seattle expansion.

While Subban hopes to be part of the solution in Nashville after a quick playoff elimination, he also knows he could be pushed on the trade block.

“If I'm talking facts, I'm the highest-paid player on this team and with that comes a responsibility. Just like everybody else, the responsibility is on me to take the fact that we didn't win the first round, we didn't get out of the first round and we didn't want to accomplish what we wanted to accomplish. I hope I'm a part of the solution. I hope that I can be here and be part of that, but at the same token I'm prepared to understand that this organization deserves and demands the best, and they should.”

On Tuesday night, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned that the Vancouver Canucks might once again get prepared to make an offer for Subban to the Predators. In his latest 31 Thoughts column, Friedman reminds fans that Subban almost began a Canuck back in 2016:

“If P.K. Subban is available, remember that he’s probably a Canuck at the 2016 draft if the Canadiens find a way to draft Pierre-Luc Dubois.”

At the draft in June 2016, the Canucks had a deal in place to trade their 5th overall to Montreal for Subban, but the Canadiens were hoping to draft Dubois with that pick. Dubois was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets with the third overall pick and so the deal was dead…

Could Vancouver finally land Subban in the end, three years later?
