One of the most coveted rentals in this year's Trade Deadline class may wind up being dealt for much less than originally expected, if a team is willing to take a chance on him.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Dallas Stars' forward Patrick Sharp has revealed he has been dealing with a nagging injury, which could keep him out of the Stars' lineup.

The 35-year old is an unrestricted free agent at season's end and is an ideal rental for a team in need of a proven playoff veteran. However, team doctors will meet with Sharp about his condition and be open with interested teams regarding it's severity.

He has already missed time this season with a concussion and apparently tried to play through his current ailment, of which the specifics remain a mystery. Friedman adds that it is possible that he will not be dealt ahead of Wednesday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline as a result of the injury.

On paper, Sharp has a lot to offer for a team looking to make a deep playoff run. Sharp is a three-time Stanley Cup champion, and has 142 career playoff games under his belt, recording 47 goals over that span.

In this injury marred campaign, Sharp has only registered seven goals and eight assists in 36 games, but his experience and veteran leadership could prove invaluable down the stretch.

The Stars are in the midst of a disappointing campaign and are clear deadline sellers on March. 1. Depending on his diagnosis, Sharp may be available for a fraction of the Stars' original asking price.

His name will be mentioned heavily over the next 24 hours and with a number of the big trade bait names already off the board, a deal is likely to be in the cards for this proven winner.
