Veteran goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury might be the Pittsburgh Penguins most valuable player thus far in the playoffs, but there is still a strong belief that he will be playing on a different come the next National Hockey League season.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary's 960 Radio this week when he brought up conversations he had with his colleague Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet.

“I think there’s a couple of different things that are going to go on," began Friedman as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. Nick (Kypreos) has been saying for awhile now that he hears there’s something going on between Las Vegas and Marc-Andre Fleury, which makes a lot of sense. I think if they go out and they get Fleury – for one thing, he’s playing unbelievably well. For another, Fleury is a hell of a guy who would make a great ambassador for any NHL team. So I’m kind of wondering if that’s what’s going to be the case."

The Penguins thus far have managed to hold on to both Fleury as well as young star goalie Matt Murray, but there are signs that this current playoff run may be the end. While Vegas may be the favorite, there are other teams in the mix.

“Fleury obviously is the guy at the top of the list, no question,” the Insider said. “And to be honest, if it was Calgary and that was the best option, it wouldn’t surprise me if Marc-Andre Fleury said, ‘Fine.’

“But I think you have to look at Vegas – that’s probably the team I would look at right now and say, ‘Yeah, you know what? They’re probably the team unless proven otherwise.’ “
